Raspberry Orange miracle - the sun in your beds!

Among the various varieties of raspberries, plants with yellow or orange berries look very unusual. Many of them are tasty, but cannot stand transportation. The raspberry variety Orange Miracle is devoid of this drawback, the bright berries of which have a density sufficient for transportation.

Growing history

Large-fruited raspberry Orange miracle is a remontant yellow-fruited variety. It is the brainchild of the famous breeder I.V. Kazakov and obtained at the experimental station of the All-Russian Institute of Horticulture in the Bryansk region. The variety was included in the State Register relatively recently - in 2009 - and is recommended for cultivation in all regions of Russia.

Description of the variety Orange miracle

Raspberry The Orange Miracle ripens in the middle of July (in cold climates, in mid-August). Compact, not too sprawling bushes are distinguished by their great vigor and powerful erect stems. During the growing season, an average number of replacement shoots (usually 5–7) and numerous shoots are formed. Annual shoots are light brown in color, slightly pubescent and covered with a light waxy coating. On the stems there are quite a few medium-sized green thorns, concentrated closer to the base of the shoot. Lateral branches, devoid of thorns and covered with a wax coating, are fruiting. The Orange Miracle is characterized by the formation of fruit twigs at 75% of the length of the stems.

Flowering occurs in the first half of June. Then, large berries are formed on the fruit branches (weight 5–6 g, maximum - up to 10.2 g), having the shape of an elongated cone with a blunt apex. The small drupes that make up the berry are firmly adhered to each other, so that the fruit does not crumble. Slightly shiny skin with slight pubescence has a bright orange color. The light orange pulp has a delicate, melting structure, a sour-sweet taste with a caramel shade and a strong aroma. The sugar content is 3.6%, the acid content is 1.1%, and the vitamin C content is 68 mg per 100 g.

Ripe berries are well separated from the fruit.

Characteristics of the variety Orange miracle

The orange miracle has excellent performance, including:

  • large size and unusual, eye-catching color of berries;
  • one-dimensionality of fruits and lack of friability;
  • high yield - about 3-4 kg per 1 bush, with industrial cultivation - 15 t / ha, and before frost the plants manage to give 90–95% of their potential yield;
  • good taste (the taste of fresh berries is estimated at 4 points);
  • good resistance to diseases and pests;
  • resistance to transportation and long shelf life.

Of course, the variety also has disadvantages:

  • medium resistance to heat and drought, in hot weather the berries are heavily baked;
  • severe stinging of the stems, which interferes with harvesting;
  • insufficient frost resistance for cold regions (up to - 24aboutFROM).

Rules for growing raspberries Orange miracle

The success of any gardener depends on the correct planting.

Raspberry planting rules

Raspberries are light-requiring, therefore, for planting it, you need to choose an area well-lit by the sun, and also take care of protection from cold winds. The southern and southeastern parts of the garden are best suited. In partial shade, raspberries can also be grown, but with strong shading, its yield drops sharply.

The close occurrence of groundwater and stagnant water are very harmful to raspberries, as they can lead to decay of the roots. If necessary, drainage must be provided in the raspberry plant.

If moisture stagnation occurs regularly on the site, it is necessary to lay a drainage system

To soil conditions, the Orange miracle is generally unpretentious, but it grows best on fertile loams. The main requirements for the soil are looseness and the ability to absorb moisture well.

Planting can be done either in the spring or in the fall. When planting in autumn, the period must be chosen so that at least a month remains before frost, then the plants will have time to take root.

You can buy planting material or get it yourself if there are already Orange Miracle bushes on your or a neighbor's site. Plants form a large amount of root growth, which alleviates the problem of reproduction of the Orange Miracle. To improve the quality of the growth, you can remove the central part of a 2-3-year-old bush. In this case, the roots form a more powerful growth, which gives high-quality planting material.

The root growth is separated together with a sufficient number of roots and a clod of soil.

For planting raspberries, pits (0.3 by 0.3 m) or trenches are prepared, the bottom is loosened with a pitchfork and filled with a nutrient mixture (3 kg of rotted manure and 15–20 g of superphosphate are covered with a layer of earth). The distance between adjacent plants should be at least 0.7-1 m, and between rows 1.5-2 m. If there are several different varieties of raspberries on the site, they should be separated by a distance of 4–5 m.

Prepared seedlings are lowered into pits, sprinkled with soil, compacted and watered at the rate of 1 bucket of water per bush.

Raspberry planting care rules

Raspberry Orange Miracle does not require much trouble in growing: it is generally unpretentious, although it quickly responds to good care by increasing yields.

Due to the abundant harvests, the shoots bend under the weight of the fruit, so it is advisable to tie the stems to the trellises.

The simplest version of the trellis is a wire or twine stretched in several rows

When growing raspberries, you need to take into account its moisture content. Although raspberries do not tolerate stagnant moisture, they need constant moderate moisture in the soil. Watering is carried out every 12-15 days (more often in dry weather) so that the soil gets wet to a depth of 25-35 cm.

In the fall, water-charging irrigation is necessary (during a rainy fall, it is not required) - the raspberry is filled with water.

After watering, they wait for the soil surface to dry out slightly, carry out shallow loosening with the removal of weeds, and then mulch it with humus for long-term preservation of moisture and nutrition of the root system.

Top dressing

Raspberries love feeding, so nutrients must be added regularly during the growing season.

In early spring, mineral fertilizers are applied: urea (15–20 g / m2) and wood ash (glass 1 m2). Instead of nitrogen fertilizers, you can make an infusion of chicken manure.

It is advisable to carry out early spring feeding by scattering dry fertilizers over the snow so that they dissolve in melt water and penetrate to the roots.

In summer, nitrogen fertilizers are not used, as they can cause the growth of green mass and a decrease in the number of flowers and ovaries.

Before flowering, a mixture of mullein and complex fertilizers is introduced - 0.5 l of mullein and 50 g of complex fertilizer are dissolved in a bucket of water and the plants are watered (1 / 5th of the bucket per 1 bush).

Protection against diseases and pests

The Orange Miracle variety is generally very resistant to diseases and pests. Nevertheless, the possibility of damage by aphids, raspberry beetle, stem gall midge is not excluded. For prevention, you can carry out early spring treatment with a solution of nitrafen 2% (immediately after snowmelt) or urea 6-7% (before bud break). Before flowering, and then after harvesting, you can spray with Inta-Vir. If harmful insects nevertheless attacked the raspberry tree, you can use insecticides - Karbofos, Confidor, Aktara.

Raspberry pests - video

To prevent diseases, the bushes are treated with Bordeaux mixture in spring.

Regular weeding, loosening of the soil, ventilation of plantings, and removal of plant residues help prevent diseases and pest infestation.

The author, in the process of long-term cultivation of raspberries, concluded for himself that to keep raspberries from creeping around the garden, you can use a very simple method - to plant a row of garlic along the raspberry bed. Moreover, the garlic should be planted very densely, then it will not allow the young shoots of raspberries to spread outside their area. The author would also like to share his sad experience: if you neglect the rule for transplanting raspberries, the berries become noticeably smaller. Therefore, every 6-7 years, raspberries need to be moved to other areas. If any diseases were noticed in the raspberry tree, you should not receive planting material from old plantings, it is better to purchase and plant new seedlings.

Raspberry pruning

Since the Orange Miracle raspberry is a remontant variety, it is capable of producing two harvests per year - on the shoots of last year (first wave) and on young stems of the current year (autumn harvest wave). The second wave of the harvest is 55-60% of the total. Despite the possibility of double fruiting, the authors of the variety indicate that the cultivation technology of the Orange Miracle should include mowing the shoots in the fall. Therefore, after harvesting at the end of October, the bushes are cut to the root and covered with sawdust, straw or other insulating materials (when grown in cold regions).

Collection, storage and use of the crop

The harvest of the Orange Miracle can begin in late July - early August (later in cold regions). According to some gardeners, the first summer harvest is not very tasty, with watery berries. It is better to use it for compote or jam.

The autumn wave of harvest deserves more attention, the berries of which are usually very large and tasty. Raspberries are harvested by hand as they ripen (the fruiting period extends until the first frost). A distinctive feature of the variety is the long-term preservation of fruits on the branches without shedding. Berries of the Orange miracle can be stored for 1-2 days without loss of quality even at room temperature, and raspberries can stay in the refrigerator for up to 12 days. Transportation Orange miracle also tolerates well due to the dense structure of the berries.

Berries of the Orange miracle are neither in taste nor in size inferior to red-colored raspberries.

Berries have a universal purpose - they can be eaten fresh, used for making berry pies, compotes, and wine. If you freeze raspberries, you can have fresh fruits throughout the winter.

Ornate raspberry branches, hung with bright orange fruits, can be used to make decorative bouquets.

Gardeners reviews

Raspberry The orange miracle will decorate any garden with its bright, like lanterns, numerous berries. Caring for it does not differ from caring for other varieties of raspberries, and with timely watering and feeding, the plants respond with a bountiful harvest.

Raspberry Orange Miracle: description of the original variety, reviews, features of cultivation and care

This article will talk about the remontant raspberry Orange Miracle, which differs in the original color of the fruit and some other features and characteristics, its cultivation, pruning, feeding, reviews of gardeners are given.

Raspberry is one of the most popular and rather unpretentious berry bushes that can be found in almost any garden. Almost everyone knows about the benefits and healing properties of berries and other aerial parts of raspberries, this is one of the main reasons for the popularity of this berry.

There are many different varieties of this berry crop, differing in the size and color of the berries, fruiting and other characteristics. There are also raspberry varieties with the usual fruiting period and remontant, giving several harvests per season. The latter are becoming more and more popular with summer residents, however, even experienced gardeners cannot always immediately choose suitable remontant varieties of raspberries for their plots. Therefore, before buying seedlings, it is worth familiarizing yourself with some of them in order to clearly understand the nuances of growing a crop, their characteristics and advantages.

Landing

For the raspberry, it is necessary to choose a well-lit place in the southern part of the site, since the plant is very fond of light and warmth. In addition, the bushes should be protected from the winds. For this purpose, it is better to plant them along a wall or fence.

Any soil is suitable, but loam is preferable. It is desirable that it be neutral or slightly acidic. The addition of dolomite flour to the soil will help reduce acidity.

To activate the growth of the root shoot, the central part is cut out. As a result, about 20 seedlings are obtained.

Fertilizers are applied to the planting holes (their depth and width should be about 50 centimeters): peat (1-2 buckets), humus (1-2 buckets), azofoska (100 grams), superphosphate (100 grams) and wood ash (1- 2 kilograms). The seedlings are planted so that the root collar is at the level of the soil.

There are 3 known planting methods:

  • private - in rows located at a distance of 1.5-2 meters, a 50-centimeter distance should be observed in the rows
  • tape - plants are planted in several lines, between which a 1.5-meter distance is left, the distance between seedlings is 60-90 centimeters
  • bush - bushes are placed in the corners of a square, the sides of which are 1-1.5 meters.

You can also propagate raspberries with young cuttings. They are planted in late spring or early summer. After planting, the soil is watered and mulched with peat, manure or sawdust.

You can propagate the plant and seeds. But in this case, it will not be possible to preserve the grade: the bushes will resemble wild raspberries.

Landing

To start planting remontant raspberries Orange miracle is necessary with the selection and preparation of a site for the future raspberry. The orange miracle is a mid-early variety, so the plant needs a lot of heat and light. Select the south side for it so that trees and buildings do not create shadows. A lowland or a ravine is not suitable for this shrub; excess moisture will cause the roots to heat up or the appearance of gray rot on the berries. The orange variety is unpretentious to the ground, but it is better if it is a loam of weak acidity.

If the site was previously used for growing other plants, then a complex of fertilizers must be added to the soil, as it can be depleted. They dig up the earth, removing old roots, weeds, bring humus, rotted manure, and wood ash into it. Dolomite flour or lime should be added to acidic soil. For cuttings, you need to dig depressions up to 35-45 cm. Fertilizers must also be laid in them to provide young bushes with food for the first 2-3 years. A nutrient mixture consisting of compost, bird droppings, ash and a complex of mineral fertilizers is poured in a small amount on the bottom of the depressions, covered with plain earth so that the roots of young cuttings do not come into contact with the concentrate.

It is important to remember that the preparation of the planting site must be prepared in a month so that the fertilizers, having time to dissolve, are available for absorption by the roots.

In spontaneous markets, red raspberries are often sold to gardeners, passing them off as the Orange Miracle, so it is better to buy planting material from large nurseries with a good reputation.

Cuttings with open roots take root weaker, but without soil it is easier to assess their quality. The cuttings should not be tall, green in the cut, the rhizome should be spongy, stitched with white roots.Such cuttings are planted in spring or autumn, and with a lump of earth, seedlings can be planted even in summer.

The roots must be well spread in the hole, covered carefully with garden soil, leaving the root collar at ground level. Watering requires 1-2 buckets of water per bush. It is better to immediately cover the trunk circle with mulch, it will retain moisture in the hole longer.

Even if you have only planted a few cuttings, it is best to place them in a row. This will make it more convenient to pull the wire over the garter trellis. The distance between the bushes must be left 70-80 cm.

Features of growing and care

According to gardeners, the Orange Miracle is an unpretentious plant and does not cause much trouble. The variety does not require increased attention of the gardener, but there are some nuances of caring for it when growing.

Watering

The variety does not tolerate overdrying of the soil, so you need to water the plant regularly. Proper hydration is especially important in the first 3 months after planting. A new portion of water is added immediately after the topsoil has dried. Then the frequency of watering is reduced to 1 time per week. The procedure is carried out in the evening, 1.5-2 buckets of water are poured under each bush:

  1. Adult raspberry bushes are watered every 2 weeks.
  2. During dry and hot periods - once a week.
  3. After harvesting, watering is reduced to 1 time in 20-25 days. In the presence of rains, additional watering to raspberries is not needed.

Pruning

Raspberries Orange Miracle are pruned 3 times per season:

  1. In the spring, first of all, frozen, broken and diseased branches are removed. No more than 15 shoots are left on each bush, the rest are removed.
  2. Thinning pruning is carried out in the summer. Too thin branches without ovaries are removed.
  3. In autumn, at the end of the growth processes, the branches that have borne fruit during the season, as well as broken and damaged branches, are cut out.

Top dressing

They begin to apply additional fertilizers under the bush from the third year, when the young plant will fully master the nutrients laid down in the hole during planting.

Each season, raspberries are fed 4 times:

  1. In early spring - with urea, saltpeter or chicken droppings. Fertilizers are scattered over the melting snow, and they penetrate to the roots with water.
  2. At the beginning of the formation of buds and after the appearance of the first ovaries, fertilizing is carried out with mineral mixtures with a high content of phosphorus and potassium.
  3. After harvesting, 3-4 liters of mullein, diluted in a ratio of 1:15, are introduced under each bush.

Transfer

The authors of the variety claim that it can be grown in one place for up to 15 years. However, practice shows that after the 10th year, the productivity of raspberries begins to decline sharply, so it is better to change its location.

Repaired varieties are transplanted in the spring, before the buds awaken. The process technology is as follows:

  1. The site for moving the bush is prepared in the fall: they dig up and apply organic and mineral fertilizers.
  2. Shoots are cut to a height of 100 cm.
  3. The bush is dug in in a circle, stepping back from the base by 40 cm.
  4. The root system is removed from the soil and divided into several parts. During cutting, the fruit bearing shoots and dead parts of the rhizome are removed.
  5. The resulting cuttings are dipped in a mash made of a mixture of clay and manure, then placed in the soil at the same level.

Wintering

The organization of shelters for the winter is an important measure to protect the plant from frost:

  1. Mulch and fallen leaves around the bush are carefully raked and burned to destroy pests and fungal spores.
  2. The soil around the bush is loosened to a depth of 6-7 cm, in the aisles - by 10 cm.
  3. A furrow is made in the row spacing and 50 g of superphosphate and 40 g of potassium salt are applied per 1 running meter. These substances are necessary for the establishment of future flower buds.
  4. 2 weeks after loosening and fertilizing, a new layer of mulch is poured onto the soil surface.
  5. The shoots are tied in bunches, bent to the soil and fixed with metal or wooden slingshots.
  6. After the onset of stable subzero temperatures, the shoots are additionally covered with agrofibre or spruce branches.
